The question is why wasn't McCarthy asked to do much.

There's a difference between not being asked to do much because other aspects of the offense were simply better , which itself is something of damning indictment of a Top 10 QB, and not being asked to do much because the QB can't be trusted with the ball. It could also be that Michigan didn't fully trust its receivers.

I have suspicions that the answer to the above is yes. Michigan did have a superior running game, McCarthy does make some cringeworthy decisions and isn't consistently accurate, and Michigan's receivers were rather pedestrian.

Frankly I thought 2nd round would have been a stretch for him, so top 10 seems like whatever is well beyond a reach. Maybe the kid pans out but I think the Vikings are spending top 10 $ on a player that will be a journeyman QB.
