When we had Withers as Co-DC and played off the ball, we had a sieve in the secondary and many thought Coombs was over his head and while a great recruiter, he was not a very good position coach. Enter, Chris Ash and the change in scheme. He has produced talent after talent at CB and it has gotten even stronger with Schiano. Now, did he suddenly become a better coach? Has he had better talent? That certainly factors in, but I would argue the change in scheme more than anything solidified our secondary. I expect similar results with the WR position and Smith will reap the benefits. He has some talent to work with and now with the right scheme (hopefully) his guys can shine at their skill set.
