I'm supporting Jake and I hope it goes well. The cynical side of me would say. This is what happened. Jake's success albeit however limited, his being an Ohio native and having a brother who played at a high level at OSU, curried favor with the boosters and support behind it. From the perspective of a young AD a 37-year-old Jake Deibler is indebted to him for a tremendous opportunity. Diebler also has neither the tenure or career cred as a head coach to push back on any decisions that Bjork would choose to make in the future. So Bjork gets a young coach that will play nice and that he can kind of mold into his image rather than a established coach who wants to do things their way and could easily push back in the face of being told no. Because the boosters pushed for the hire, if it doesn't work than Bjork can go back to the boosters and put the hire on them and doesn't have to take responsibility for the failure. And to be fair, none of this is to say it won't work out fantastically.
: Still just kind of surprised. If he had won 3 games or more in the tourney, no brainer (I think if he had got by the Illini, we would also have won at least the next game also). So it does feel like the decision was made before the tournament started. : Not for or against it, necessarily, still just kind of surprised. Not sure what to think really. Unless, as someone posted below, the plan is to spend the money now or later on someone from the portal? If the returning players stick and add another scorer or post player, seems to have to the makings or a top 3 or 4 B1g team? Or maybe they are eyeing an expensive assistant?
