He stopped taking it during the trial - which accounted for why the infamous gloves found at the scene were too small for him. His hands had swollen up. As you will recall he made a big show of trying the gloves on and of course they no longer fit. It was one of the elements that fooled the credulous jury.
I knew none of this back then but it was included in one of the obits I read.
