I was with family staying in Folly Beach (which is a great little beach town/area to go if you don't want a ton of tourism trap stuff), but we almost didn't get out of Charleston that night due to the flooding...miraculously did though with the water halfway up our car doors. The only real time I got in Savannah was spent at the popular walking and shopping area, but it wasn't quite as impressive as people made it out to be. I thought the Charleston downtown market was much more fun. Charleston though has tons of history of course, so I would go there personally.
